Mauritius August inflation rises to 9,5% y-on-y

Annual inflation in Mauritius rose to 9,5 percent in August from 9,1 percent the previous month, official figures showed on Friday.

"The rate of inflation for the twelve months ending August 2008 works out to 9,5 percent compared to 10,1 percent for the twelve months ending August 2007," the Central Statistics Office said in a report.

Headline inflation had fallen steadily from 10,7 percent in June 2007 to a low of 8,8 percent in May and June this year.

This July, the central bank hiked its key rate by 25 basis points to 8,25 percent per year, the first interest rate hike this year after three cuts in 2008.
