Eritea: President holds talks with UAE Foreign Minister

President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks at the State Palace with a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) headed by Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdalla Bin Zaid Al-Nahyan.

In the meeting, the Foreign Minister delivered a message to President Isaias from the UAE President, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zaid Al-Nahyan. The two sides also conducted discussion on the progress made in relations between the two countries, as well as regional and international issues.

In a statement he made following the talks, Sheikh Abdalla Bin Zaid Al-Nahyan stated that he was able to understand Eritrea's positive role in resolving the prevailing problems in East Africa in general and achieving a comprehensive peaceful solution to the Somali and Sudanese issues in particular. In this respect, the UAE Foreign Minister said that such endeavors conform to the security situation of the countries in the Arabian Gulf.

Noting that the United Arab Emirates is registering development in infrastructure, energy, irrigation farming, water conservation, management of ports and free economic zone, he expressed the UAE's readiness to cooperate with Eritrea in these domains.

Sheikh Abdalla Bin Zaid Al-Nahyan further indicated that relations between the two countries is historical, and that efforts would be made to encourage UAE nationals invest in Eritrea so as to strengthen bilateral ties.

The UAE delegation arrived in Eritrea this morning on a one-day working visit.
