Peaceful Energy - Key Documents

The United States supports the transfer of nuclear technology to states that are party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty for the development of safe and secure civilian nuclear power programs, and for basic research and industrial, medical and agricultural applications. The United States supports the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as it applies safeguards to ensure that nuclear materials and facilities are used only for peaceful purposes, and the United States cooperates with other nations to develop their peaceful nuclear programs. The materials on this website show that the United States supports a targeted expansion of resources for the IAEA for these activities. The United States also supports the development of an expanded framework for international nuclear energy cooperation, which would include the creation of international nuclear fuel banks.
