Zamtel has spent US$31 million on its national fibre network

Zamtel has spent US$31 million on laying the optic fibre network countrywide, Transport and Communications Deputy Minister Mubika Mubika told Parliament last week. The deputy minister told the House that the total cost of laying the optic fibre cables was $34 million.

He was responding to Chilubi Member of Parliament (MP) Obby Chisala (PF), who wanted to know how much money Zamtel had spent on the optic fibre cables country-wide, and what the total cost of the project was.

Mubika could, however, not state whether Lap Green Networks, the new majority shareholders of Zamtel, would continue with the exercise of putting up the remaining optic fibre cables to complete the exercise.
