Egypt: Foreign Minister reviewed with the US Special Envoy to Sudan the Egyptian vision concerning the situation in Sudan

Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit received US Special Envoy to Sudan, Scott Gration, who is currently on a visit to Cairo. The meeting comes within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between Egypt and US regarding the Sudanese issue, since the US recognizes the importance of the Egyptian interest and its effect on the Sudanese situation, stated Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, Gration outlined that US is always interested in coordinating with Egypt, and it is keen to be acquainted with the Egyptian visions in this regard. US is also greatly concerned with Egypt's evaluation regarding all steps carried out to move forward the political process and settle the situation in Sudan.

Spokesman stated that Aboul Gheit reviewed with the US envoy the Egyptian vision concerning the situation in Sudan either between North and South – most regarded by Egypt- or the situation in Darfur with all its dimensions, elements and developments. The Egyptian vision in this regard is based on the importance of providing the opportunity for all Sudanese parties to participate in a new credible political process which would lead to retrieve stability and peace in such significant part of Sudan.

During his deliberations with the US envoy, Aboul Gheit shed light on the special situation between the North and the South as it faces many difficulties. Egypt also pays great interest to surmount any difficulties and push both sides to benefit from all mechanisms in order to achieve political way-outs, which was clear from Aboul Gheit's proposal in his deliberations with the US envoy.

Spokesman added, there was an agreement on keeping Egyptian-US dialogue and consultation on this issue, expressing his hope in holding dialogue on those points, in future at the level of both sides experts, to carry out coordination between Egypt and the US in the interest of stability and peace of Sudan.

Both sides agreed upon the importance of working on calming the situation between Sudan and Chad being the main disturbing factor of stability in Darfur; defusing tension will be to the advantage of stability and peace of the region.

Spokesman stated, assigned by Aboul Gheit, Director of Sudan Department at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Mohammed Qassim, will head to Sudan at the beginning of the upcoming week to visit Khartoum and Juba, and hold deliberation with officials on the situations in Sudan as well as what Egypt provides of support to the Sudanese situation with all its various aspects in general.
