Ethio-UAE relations satisfactory: Meles

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said existing trade and investment relations between Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is satisfactory.

The Premier made the statement on Friday May 1, 2009 while holding talks with UAE Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdallah Al Nahyan .

Meles said UAE investors would be beneficiaries if they engage in the agriculture sector in Ethiopia, a country endowed with natural resources.

The premier said Ethiopia also has wide resource in renewable energy.

He said Ethiopian and UAE airliners contribute share to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Sheikh Abdallah Al Nahyan on his part said Prime Minister Meles has been contributing significant share in the efforts to maintain peace and speed up development in Ethiopia.

The minister lauded efforts of the premier to bring about lasting peace and stability in Somalia and Sudan.

He also expressed UAE’s readiness to open an embassy in Ethiopia in the near future. The embassy will help to enhance existing historical relations between the two countries.

A technical team will arrive here within two weeks to observe the agriculture and renewable energy resource in Ethiopia, the minister said.
