Libya creates Exclusive Economic Zone

Libya has created an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) following a declaration on Wednesday in Tripoli by the Libyan general people's committee at the end of its weekly ordinary meeting.
The declaration indicates that the Libyan Jamahiriya will exercise its sovereignty over its EEZ which extends beyond the territorial waters up to the limits authorized by international law.
This is with a view to exploring and exploiting, conserving and managing natural, biological and non-biological resources, waters underlying the depths of the sea and their subsoil, as well as other activities geared towards the exploration and exploitation of the zone for economic purposes.
The Libyan general people's committee decided to inform the United Nations Secretary General of its declaration of the EEZ and to publish it in the code of procedures.
Meanwhile, the committee has adopted a memorandum of the general people's committee for health and the environment, to take measures to cope with any spre ad worldwide of the A/H1N1 swine flu virus, affirming that Libya has so far not been affected.
The Committee also decided to send 500 Libyan doctors to undergo training in Egypt before appointing them to primary health assistant pilot centres across the country.
