Mauritius: Inflation rate dips to 2.5%

The annual consumer inflation rate dipped to 2.5 percent in September from 2.6 percent in August, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said yesterday.

The CSO said the consumer price index crept up 0.1 percent from a month earlier to reach 120.7 in September.

The average annual inflation rate rose in September for the third successive month to reach 2 percent, up from 1.9 percent in August.

The central bank cut its key lending rate by 100 basis points to 4.75 percent last week and said it would leave it unchanged for six months to kick-start a faltering economic recovery.
