Central African Republic: South African Troops Leaving
South African troops are being withdrawn from the Central African Republic, a South African National Defense Union spokesman said April 2, SAPA reported. At least 200 soldeirs have already been withdrawn, and only 18 soldiers remain in the country, the spokesman said. The Bangui airport is under the control of the French army, which is safeguarding South African equipment. In January, South Africa deployed an estimated 200 paratroopers as part of a bilateral security agreement between Pretoria and the government of the Central African Republic's then-President Francois Bozize.
