African Leaders Face Opposition Over Third Terms

The UN Security Council called for Burundi's government to reopen (Deutsche Welle) emergency talks to put an end to violence that has erupted since President Pierre Nkurunziza announced his bid for a third term in power. Elsewhere, Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso reshuffled (Mail & Guardian Africa) his cabinet, removing ministers who opposed a constitutional change that would pave the way for him to run for a third term. In Rwanda, lawmakers said that ten members of parliament oppose (AFP) President Paul Kagame's bid to serve for a third term in power.
